Mitsubishi Evo 8/9 4G63 Crankshaft Kit with Taiho Bearings
We supply this brand new aftermarket 4G63 crankshaft with STD size Taiho main bearings, con rod bearings and split thrust bearings for Mitsubishi Evo 8 and Evo 9 engines. The crankshaft has the standard 88 mm stroke and seven-bolt flywheel pattern. Its supplied new rather than remanufactured or reground.
The crankshaft is based on Mitsubishi reference MD357543. This number identifies the replacement application. The crankshaft isnt a genuine Mitsubishi part.
What comes with the kit
- 1 x new aftermarket 4G63 crankshaft
- Taiho STD main bearing set
- Taiho STD con rod bearing set
- Taiho STD split thrust bearing set
Mitsubishi Evo fitment
| Model | Engine | Application |
|---|---|---|
| Evo 8 and Evo 9 | 4G63 turbo | Standard 88 mm stroke replacement with the supplied later-style bearing arrangement |
| Evo 5, Evo 6 and Evo 7 | 4G63 turbo | Also suitable for the corresponding MD357543 crankshaft application |
Check the engine actually fitted if your car has had a replacement block or engine conversion. The vehicle model alone wont identify the bearing arrangement in a mixed engine build.
Using the crankshaft in an Evo 1, Evo 2 or Evo 3
The original Evo 1–3 engines also use a seven-bolt crankshaft. They shouldnt be confused with the earlier six-bolt 4G63 engines found in other Mitsubishi applications.
A later seven-bolt crankshaft can be used in an appropriate early Evo build but the main and thrust bearings must match the block. Early engines use a flanged centre main bearing rather than the separate split thrust arrangement supplied with this kit. The included later-style main and thrust bearings arent a direct replacement for that early arrangement.
In a DSMtuners discussion about fitting an Evo 8 crankshaft to an earlier seven-bolt engine contributors explain that the block determines which thrust bearing design is required. Buying a later crankshaft doesnt convert an early block to split thrust bearings.
For an Evo 1–3 installation have your engine builder confirm the crankshaft dimensions and the correct main and thrust bearing set before ordering. Check the con rods and their side clearance against the parts actually used in the build. Dont assume every early Evo needs replacement rods.
Before assembly
STD describes the supplied bearing size. It doesnt guarantee the assembled oil clearances. Measure the journals and check main bearing clearance, con rod bearing clearance and crankshaft end float against the Mitsubishi workshop specifications before final assembly.
If the old crankshaft has suffered bearing damage investigate the cause and check the oil supply system before fitting the new parts. Clean the relevant oil passages and inspect the block and con rods for damage. A new crankshaft and bearing set wont correct a damaged bearing housing or an unresolved lubrication fault.
